A new nail salon opened its doors Monday in Dickinson, inviting guests to sample egg rolls and a new twist on what to expect from a nail salon.
Clarendon's Best Nail Salon: Lovely Nails
Dickinson Nail Spa is the newest business to open in the West Ridge Market Center. The salon focuses on high-end products, increased sanitation and a relaxing environment in line with feng shui, the ancient Chinese practice of arranging items to promote energy flow.
After a visit to the optometrist left him with bifocals, his ability to look at the small mechanics of an internal watch made it too difficult for him to continue in the craft.
A logical move might have been to find a career with one of the two degrees he had in his arsenal -- finance investment and banking or electrical engineering. Instead, he got his license in cosmetology and became a nail technician. He also married Vanessa Hoang during his time in California who now also works at the nail spa.

Lee moved to Bismarck four years ago to continue his career. During those four years, he had customers from the western side of the state traveling to Bismarck two times a month just to see him to get their nails done.
The West Ridge Market Center, which was completed last year, had multiple units available, allowing Lee to expand into a neighboring unit in the future if he wanted.
“You can make them look good but if you are ruining the nail, then that it is not good in the long term for the clients, ” Lee said.
Nail Villa Salon
Lee said they are able to provide a quality experience because they invest in their products. He said that the 700 gel nail polishes they use are organic and cost seven times more than other gel nail polishes. Lee said these polishes are usually only used at day spa locations.
Le specialises in marble designs on the nail -- mixing two dry colors together to get a swirled effect. He also is able to incorporate 3-D designs inside of the acrylic.
Lee said he also wanted to make sure everything is as sanitary as possible. Nail polishes used on pedicures can’t be used for manicures and vice versa. He also said they use hospital-grade disinfectant in the pedicure bowls after each use. Each bowl is sanitized in the disinfectant for 20 minutes after each use.

All of the nail technicians have 15 packages of tools, that are disposed of after each use except for nail clippers and cuticle pushers, which can be disinfected because they are metal.
Lee he wants to have at least 10 technicians with the remaining members being locals. He said if anyone is cosmetology licensed, they will work with them on learning the ropes of nail design.
“We don’t want to be one of those typically nail salons where you come in and it’s all Asians, ” Lee said. “We want it to be everybody -- a melting pot.”
